We found an I-Pod touch along Chapel Ridge Road today. It's an 8 GB 4th Gen.

Call 801-341-4048 to claim it.

as a pet lover but not a pet owner, i am asking those of you who are pet owners to please watch your pets. don't just let them out to wander wherever they want.

i mowed my back lawn today and cleaned up seven large piles of dog poop. doesn't make me very happy, since i don't have any dogs. please keep your pets doing their business in your own yard.

thanks.

It was a very interesting meeting.  Unfortunately, I think I came out of the meeting more worried about the problem than I was going into it, and I wasn't the only one to feel that way.  Here are my notes from the meeting:

The State Division of Drinking Water gave a presentation summarizing their dealings with the water at Traverse Mountain.

• The state report states that current culinary water conditions are safe for use.
• Lehi city has proposed a plan to blend water from our well with water from other wells to achieve a state approved • 2 ppb or less level, that is not yet approved by the state
• High thallium levels does impact fruit and vegetable thallium content, but within acceptable levels according to the state report.
• The state MCL (maxium containment level) for thallium is 2 ppb
• Under normal conditions without a detected violation, water is sampled at 3 year intervals.  After a violation, the frequency is increased to quarterly intervals.
• You should notify your physical to contact the State Environmental Epidemiology Program for thallium detection and treatment information if you experience symptoms.
• The half life of thallium in your body is only 3 days, so symptoms should have gone away quickly after the water source was switched.
• The Lehi well is 1000ft deep and is considered as a "protected" or contained aquifer, and is not likely affected by Geneva, Micron, or other surface activity.
• One explanation for the increased levels of thallium is that the well containment has been compromised.
• State Environmental Epidemiology Program can be contacted at eep@utah.gov or http://health.utah.gov/enviroepi/

Lehi responded with the following information:

• Traverse Mountain's water is currently being fed from a different water well which has low levels of thallium.
Lehi cannot sustain the use of water at Traverse Mountain long-term without using the Traverse Mountain well
• Lehi's position on the topic is that they are following proper procedure according to the state requirements to remedy the situation.
• The November 2007 sample resulted in a 1.9 ppb value (within MCL)
• The November 2010 sample resulted in a 2.6 ppb value
• After the first violation, water was diverted from a different well which initially increased the thallium level, but after flushing has lowered it to within thresholds.
• The city committed to posting test results and ongoing information related to the problem on their website.

Residents had the following concerns

• There were many people in the room who reported having themselves or family members suffer from thallium poisoning symptoms.
• Thallium levels could have exceeded the MCL beginning in 2007 and yet we were only recently notified of the problem.
• The pressurized irrigation water system has not been diverted to other wells, and therefore still contains elevated amounts of thallium.
• The definition of "safe" is relative in that the "short-term" symptoms are still very serious and have been very costly to many of us.
• The city's attitude of meeting minimum standards is concerning when we would hope for high-quality water.
• The residents are not content with a plan to blend water with high levels of thallium with water containing low levels in order to barely meet the MCL
• Residents would like to see a plan that has a goal of the EPA recommended 0.5 ppb instead of 1.999 ppb.
• The communication with residents is very lacking.
• The half-life of water is only 3 days so it's likely that a urine or blood test may not represent conditions when they were at their worst.
• The state can request federal investigative assistance only if Lehi requests it.
• Most filtering systems do not help with thallium levels unless they have an activated alumina filter

Testing Information shared among residents

• There are blood, urine, and hair tests available from various sources
• Labcorp has a $125 urine test
• Hairanalysiskit.com has a hair sample test

Marianne Ludlow asked me to post the following message:

Just a reminder -- Thallium Meeting this Friday (today) @ 6 p.m. @ TM Sales Center. Several City and State officials handling the issue of Thallium in Traverse Mountain's water will meet with TM residents and present information about the Thallium test results, causes of the contamination, health consequences and short/long term plans for testing and remediation. You can also ask any questions you may have.

I hike back there and see all kinds of people back there when I do. I've been told that it is an attempt to limit the land owner's liability.
